Molly Parkin

Hello, my name is Molly and I am 21-year-old gardener currently based in Northamptonshire. My interest in horticulture originally stemmed from learning about gardening from an early age from my Grandad who is a keen amateur gardener but over time our roles have reversed and I now find myself being their honorary head gardener!
I began my horticultural career at the age of 16 as a part-time Plant Care Assistant at a local nursery before I went to study the RHS Level 2 Certificates in the Principles and Practices of Horticulture at BEST in Horticulture College, Ryton. Following the successful completion of these qualifications, I undertook the WRAGS traineeship at Cottesbrooke Hall & Gardens which is a large private estate in Northamptonshire. After one-year I became a full-time Assistant Gardener and thoroughly enjoyed being able to use planting schemes and soft landscaping to create a harmonious balance between the natural landscape and architecture of the hall, allowing the garden’s historical integrity to remain intact whilst also being able to be creative and add your own stamp.
I regularly attend industry events such as talks, workshops and seminars as well as volunteering at the RHS Malvern & Chelsea Flower Shows. As a keen member of the YPHA, I have become part of their brand-new accelerator programme, The Launch Success Challenge to release a brand-new plant into the UK. Over the next 6 months, I have meticulously organised and arranged to undertake a variety of internships and horticultural opportunities both within the UK and Europe so that I can further expand my skills and engage with international gardening practices so I can help care for plants in different climatic zones. I have just finished a placement at Logan Botanic Gardens, Scotland and I am excited to volunteer at Peter Korn’s Garden, Sweden and Monet’s Garden, France. I am looking forward to seeing where my career in horticulture can take me.
